Changes to draw

Dear all Redbacks.

As a result of the recent rain, AFL Qld has abandoned all Junior, under 18 and reserve grade senior games this weekend.
The Redback Seniors will still be playing their game against Robina but this has now been transferred to our Glen Logan Ground and will commence at 1.00pm on Saturday.

Hopefully we will see many of you there to support.

Thank You,

Richard.

Southern Redback Under 14 player Ty Avery played his 150th game for the club on Sunday when they played Kenmore Green at Glen Logan Park.

Ty began playing with the Redbacks in their debut season in 2001 as an under 8 and has always been a great clubman, helping out wherever he can.

As only the second player to achieve this milestone, The Southern Redbacks congratulate Ty and thank him for his contribution to the clubs continued growth.

This Sunday at 2.00, when the under 16 Carwise Southern Redbacks take on Sandgate at Glen Logan Park Jimboomba, Cole Stewart will run out for his 150th game for the Southern Redbacks.

Cole is the first player to achieve this milestone for the Redbacks after beginning as an under 8 in the Redbacks first season in 2009.

Since then Cole has played many games in higher age groups to enable the club to field teams when numbers were down. Cole is the youngest of the Stewart brothers who all played their Junior Football with the Redbacks and hopes to continue in the same manner as his older brothers who are now both senior listed at Mt Gravatt.

The Southern Redbacks congratulate Cole on achieving this milestone and thank him for his contribution to the club.

AFL Per-Season Canival

The Southern Redbacks Seniors travelled to Warwick on February 21 to compete in a pre-season carnival organised by the Warwick AFL Club The carnival was played between the Warwick, Goondiwindi, Lismore and Southern Redbacks football clubs with all teams playing each other once in a reduced game format on the Saturday to decide a top 4, with 1st playing 2nd and 3rd playing 4th in full games on the Sunday.

The Southern Redbacks played Warwick in their first game and as this was the first hit out for the season for both clubs it was a slightly scrappy game with a few moments of flowing football. Both teams fought hard for the entire game but the Southern Redbacks were the eventual winners.

The Second game was against Lismore and this was the game that everyone thought would be decide top spot for the day as Lismore and the Southern Redbacks were equal favourites going into the carnival. With both sides already having played a game to warm up, the standard was a lot better with some free flowing football and excellent passages of play. Lismore had no answer for the hard running play of the Redbacks who ran out comfortable winners for the game.

Game 3 was against the Goondiwindi side who had battled hard in their previous games but were unable to post a win on the day. Again the Redbacks proved too good for the Goondiwindi side which left the Redbacks boys undefeated for the day and eager to play Lismore in a full game on the Sunday.

The Sunday ‘Grand Final’ followed a similar pattern to the game on Saturday and again the Southern Redbacks proved too strong and were awarded the pre season premiers trophy for the carnival.

The Southern Redbacks would like to thank the Warwick Football club for organising the competition with the support of Darling Downs AFL as well as the Lismore, Goondiwindi and Warwick football clubs for providing the competition in a friendly football focussed atmosphere. We wish all clubs the best for the season ahead in their respective competitions.

On Saturday March 7 and Sunday March 8, the Southern Redbacks Carwise under 16’s had their representative trials matches at Yeronga and Alexandra Hills.

With a limited and interrupted preparation to these games the boys competed strongly on the Saturday but were beginning to tire by the last game on Sunday.

All of the boys really put in to give the representative selectors something to think about and we congratulate Dylan Hughes for his selection in the Western Taipans regional squad and Drew Flemming and Jeff Dunn for their selection in the South Eastern Bushrangers regional squad. These boys are now in training to hopefully make the final teams for these regions to compete in the under 16 State championships to be held later in the year.

The Southern Redbacks would also like to thank the Calamvale, Yeronga, Jindalee and Springwood clubs for lending us players on the days
