Redbacks Teams in 2007

Our club has built a solid reputation as a competitive force within the AFL Brisbane Juniors community.  This season the club fielded 9 teams from U8’s through to U16’s.

4 teams this year played for premiership points and 3 made it to the finals.  The U16’s team finished top of the ladder and narrowly missed the Grand Final by 2 points.  The U12’s team competed in the Grand Final, but lost by 11 points.

Numerous Redbacks played in their representative teams, some who had leadership rolls.  Congratulation to Sam from the U16’s made the Queensland team this year.

Under 12 Qualifying Final

Southern Redbacks T.J.Kelly under 12 played Aspley 2 on Saturday in the second final played at Wynnum.

It was a hot and hard game, but both teams went out with winning on their minds.
Our captains Nathan Byrnes and Bradley Leedham led the team out in high spirits.

Our back line needed to be on their toes as Aspley came at them hard and fast. All our back line played great and displayed a lot of guts and determination to prevent Aspley from scoring.

Some of our scorers were Ben Gillham, Reece Vandermeche, Damian Stree.

Players of the match went to Jack Peters, Tim Tate, Damian Street and the encouragement award went to Jake Fisher. Well done to all the team.

Final score was Aspley 4-5=29 to Redbacks 4-4=28.

Next game is at Tenah Merah at 12:45.

The under 16’s finised top of the ladder after defeating Alexandra Hills.

Alexandra Hills started the game strongly and led early, but was over run by a better team.  Cameron Hughes played very well in defence while Scott Bode and Mitchell Johnson played strong running games.

Jimboomba started the 3rd quarter well with Brett Boyle displaying solid skills in defence, Steven Sedmak and Aaron Kirby ran strongly in attack with great support from U14 players Cole Stewart and Drew Fleming.

Good Luck in the finals, if we win this week you get a week holiday.

Southern Redbacks Under 12 played Wynnum at Jindalee 25th Aug 2007 in the first semi final for the season.

Our team went out on a wet and muddy day with the determination to come home the victors. The whole team went in hard and played as well as can be expected on such a wet day.

T.J Kellys under 12 Southern Redbacks versed Wynnum at Jimboomba on Saturday.
It was great to play our last game for the season on home turf and didn’t the team come out fired up and rearing to win.
It was second playing third, and next week we play Wynnum all over again in the first final at Jindale.
